""Tourism boom Thanks to the best ever sea and air access into the state,
Tasmania is experiencing record visitor numbers and a booming tourism industry.
The purchase of three super fast ferries has transformed the Tasmanian tourism
industry forever and has dramatically increased visitor numbers to the state.
They have also provided new opportunities for the movement of freight. Tasmania
is now welcoming nearly 800,000 visitors each year, attracted by the state’s
World Heritage wilderness, stunning natural beauty, gourmet food and wine,
unhurried lifestyle, world-class trout fishing, friendly locals and cultural
attractions. Visitors to the state nearly double the number of those eight years
ago. Tasmania’s record visitor numbers have seen a boom in tourism development.
At present there is more than A$900m in tourism-related development either
planned or under construction. Tasmania offers travelers a safe and affordable,
rejuvenating holiday experience in one of the most unique and unspoilt locations
in the world. Andrew Davies, writing in UK newspaper The Guardian in late 2001,
stated that, “no area in Australia has more scenic beauty, more pastoral
pleasure packed into it than the place they call the Natural State.”
